Black Obelisk has emerged as one of the top Curios in Beta for avid collectors who are passionate about the historical development of Sorcery due to similarity with several Alpha curios that reveal early game mechanics and formatting. The special tap symbol is back, as well as roman numerals for costs. Black Obelisk is especially intriguing because of its new keyword referring to a Dawn/Dusk mechanic and its nod to the term "Omnipotence".

"Pretty early on after Erik and I started working together, I kind of jokingly sent him this card called Omnipotence; and the card text was just "You May". And he just seemed really tickled pink by that card idea...he really loved it...and we even started calling the game Ominpotence for a while...I think it really speaks to the vision of the game; we just really wanted people to have fun..."
