Spear of Destiny emerges in Beta as a Curio inclusion and appears to pay homage to an error made in the Alpha preconstructed decks. In those decks, there were lines extending from the artist name on the bottom of the card to clearly identify it as a preconstructed deck version (vs. a core Alpha set version) and an Alpha symbol instead of the Copyright symbol that was used in early development sample/test print cards. However, in the Alpha preconstructed decks, there was a print file error in which the Copyright symbol was not changed to an Alpha symbol. As a homage to this mistake and to allow collectors to have a "correct" version of this card, the Curio was born.
This was also true for Shifting Sands, which also appears as a Curio in Beta.
